ENVIRONMENT AND HEALTH PROMOTION

The importance of the environment in Health Promotion was recognized as early as the 5th century BC by Hippocrates in his book “On airs, waters and lands”. The concept of the environment as an important determinant of human health is not limited to the natural environment, but extends to the wider socio-economic environment in which individuals live and operate.

In this context, students will study in depth and be able to:

· comprehend the effects of various factors of the natural and anthropogenic environment, such as air and water pollution, climate change, noise pollution, water scarcity, waste problem, and various sources of radiation, on the health of human populations

· understand the effects of living conditions and environmental risk factors (e.g. diet, smoking, etc.) on the health of human populations

· critically evaluate interventions in the field of environmental risk factors and the prevention of their effects

· contribute to the formulation, implementation and evaluation of Health Promotion interventions regarding environmental risk factors
